NV Energy seeks new solar and battery for customers
NV Energy is seeking 1,190 MW of new solar energy and 590 MW of battery storage to provide power to its customers in the state.
The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada approved in December for that amount of renewable energy to be built in the state and provided to customers. NV Energy issued a request for proposals in solar, geothermal, wind, biomass and biogas technology that are compliant with Nevada’s existing renewable portfolio standards.
"We continue our commitment to our customers to expand our use of renewable resources while working to reduce energy costs for our customers," Doug Cannon, NV Energy President and Chief Executive Officer, said in a statement. "We expect these new projects to provide some of the lowest-cost renewable energy available, which will directly benefit our customers."
The utility will evaluate proposals based on the best value to customers and the creation of economic benefits to the State of Nevada. Projects will also be considered that add supplemental energy storage systems that are integrated with the proposed renewable energy resource and stand-alone energy storage systems.
Bids for proposals are due by 4 p.m. on March 9 and projects would be expected to be completed and operational by December 31, 2025.
