Textron secures 55 MW of wind power for Kansas facilities
Textron Aviation has signed a long-term agreement for 55 MW of wind energy that will meet nearly all the electricity needs of two of their Kansas facilities.
The aviation manufacturer will receive the power for its facilities in Wichita and Independence from a 300 MW wind farm under construction in Manhattan, Kansas, through and agreement with Evergy, Inc. The Soldier Creek Wind Farm is expected to come online by the end of the year.
“The purchase of renewable energy demonstrates our commitment to a more sustainable future for our employees, communities and customers,” Brad White, Textron Aviation senior vice president of operations, said in a statement. “Textron Aviation claims nearly 20% of the zero-emission and renewable energy generated by the Soldier Creek Wind Energy Center.”
Textron will also benefit from the Direct Renewable Participation Service tariff, which the Kansas Corporation Commission passed in July 2018 to encourage the widespread adoption of renewable energy. Through this program, Textron will receive a rate of 2.3 cents her kWh, which accounts for savings of nearly 22%.
