Princeton University partners with Community Energy on RE research

Princeton University announced Aug. 18 a joint venture between its Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment and Community Energy that will focus on researching an optimal buildout plan for increasing carbon-free power over the next decade to assist the U.S. energy transition.

The partnership plans on developing a blueprint, first for the PJM system that controls all or part of 13 states, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland, for achieving affordable emissions reduction.

“We are thrilled to partner with Community Energy and investigate questions that the industry faces on the national energy transition. The partnership exemplifies how the Andlinger Center translates new knowledge to be useful for practitioners,” Barry Rand, associate director for external partnerships at the Andlinger Center, said in a statement. “The company’s perspective will bolster our efforts to provide meaningful insights on how the grid could become low-carbon and which technologies we need to scale to get there.”

The second phase of the project will assess and identify policies that could incentivize the necessary power resources.

This is Community Energy’s first research collaboration with a university, and they will be the first renewable energy company to work with the Andlinger Center through the Princeton E-ffilliates Partnership.
