Mondelēz International and Clorox get power from new solar plant
The second phase of a solar plant in Upton County, Texas, that will supply power to Mondelēz International and The Clorox Company began operations Sept. 1.
The 245 MW Roadrunner project will provide 65 MW to Mondelēz International and 70 MW to The Clorox Company through PPAs between the companies and the owner of the project, Enel Green Power. The newly constructed portion of the solar plant is the second phase of a larger installation, which now has an overall capacity of 497 MW and is the largest operational solar farm in Texas.
This PPA is Mondelēz International’s largest renewable energy partnership and will allow them to make progress on their goal to reduce carbon emissions from manufacturing 15% by 2020. Additionally, the PPA between The Clorox Company and Enel Green Power will cover half of Clorox’s 100% renewable electricity goal in their operations in the U.S. and Canada, a goal that they are anticipating achieving in 2021.
The entire solar project is made up of 1.2 million panels and is expected to generate approximately 1.2 TWh and avoid over 792,000 tons of carbon annually.
