Boeing to cover 25% of Arizona site power with solar

Boeing announced Sept. 10 that they entered into an agreement with a 100 MW solar plant that will cover about 25% of the electricity needs of their Mesa, Ariz., site for the next 15 years.

The aircraft manufacturer completed the agreement with Salt River Project (SRP) and will be one of several offtakers of SRP’s new solar plant in Eloy, Ariz., which is expected to begin operation in December 2021.

“It makes sense to take advantage of renewable solar energy at a location that enjoys 295 days of sunshine a year,” Beth Schryer, Boeing vice president of Facilities & Asset Management, said in a statement. “This will help offset the same amount of energy equivalent to that used in one year by 670 average U.S. homes.”

Boeing has previously committed to their goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 25% before 2025 and powering operations with 100% renewable energy. Two of their sites, Renton, Wash., and Charleston, S.C., are already powered with 100% renewable energy.
