Ranpak Holdings Corp. Commits to Reducing Emissions
Ranpak Holdings Corp, an Ohio-based paper and recycling packaging solutions company, committed to reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by at least 46% by 2030, which is in line with the global reductions necessary to keep global warming to 1.5°C from pre-industrial levels. The company announced the target with the release of its 2020 ESG Impact Report.
In a statement, David Murgio, Ranpak’s Chief Sustainability Officer & Secretary, said, “Ranpak will continue to advance our overall ESG performance and is excited to establish these important targets for 2030. With these targets, Ranpak looks forward to proving once again that it is possible to both protect our natural environment and produce more sustainable and more effective packaging solutions for the global supply chain.”
The company reported a significant reduction of Scope 1 emissions in 2020 compared to 2019, noting that “while these results reflect a significant reduction in our Scope 1 emissions from our 2019 results, this reduction is predominantly due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our salesforce’s ability to travel. At the same time, our Scope 2 emissions increased by approximately 12% due to our increased paper production resulting from organic business growth.”
Ranpak also announced benchmarks achieved in several key ESG areas including increased usage of recycled fiber, recycling of Ranpak total waste generated, and diversity and inclusion with a commitment to varied perspectives.
