Williams-Sonoma Commits to Carbon Neutrality by 2025
Williams-Sonoma announced April 22 that it is committed to being carbon neutral in its own operations by 2025 and cutting emissions across its value chain by 2030.
The home retailer is working with the Science-Based Targets initiative in the development of these goals. The targets include reaching a 50% cut in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 14% cut in Scope 3 emissions (materials, production, transportation, and product use) by 2030.
“We are thrilled to announce our new climate goals of carbon reduction across our supply chain. Williams-Sonoma, Inc. is Good By Design – striving for quality, safety, and sustainability throughout our business, and to improve our environmental performance every day,” Laura Alber, president and chief executive officer, said in a statement. “We understand these commitments play an important role in the sustainability of our planet and look forward to continuing our work to create a more sustainable future for generations to come.”
In order to reduce its own emissions, Williams-Sonoma will focus on retrofitting its systems and upgrading to more efficient equipment in its offices, stores, and distribution centers. The company also intends to install solar projects, purchase green energy when possible and support the construction of other projects through PPAs.
