Intel Sets its Sights on 2030 Energy Goals
Intel increased its renewable energy use to 82% last year from 71% the year before and announced a list of other achievements and goals in its new Corporate Responsibility Report.
Intel’s new corporate responsibility annual report found that it has reduced Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 28% since 2000. Additionally, the company saved more than 4.5 billion kWh of energy between 2012 and 2019 through energy conservation practices, resulting in more than $500 million in cumulative savings.
The tech company hopes to reach 100% renewable energy use and carbon-neutral computing operations by 2030. Intel also plans to save 4 billion kWh in energy use from 2020 to 2030 by investing in energy-saving projects.
At the beginning of 2020, Intel had reached 100% renewable energy use in its US and European operations, 50% for their Israel operation, and 71% globally.
Other 2030 goals include a further 10% reduction in carbon emissions based on a 2020 baseline through investments in renewable energy, process and equipment optimization and energy conservation.
“We will help solve the world's greatest challenges through deep technical collaboration with our customers, helping them transform their industries with radical innovation and leadership products, and achieve their own corporate responsibility goals,” CEO Pat Gelsinger wrote in a letter accompanying the new report. “Along with customers, partners, governments and NGOs, we also will support smart policies that accelerate the creation of safe and secure digital infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, and an inclusive and skilled future workforce.
“I believe deeply in this company and the wonderful future we will create together. Our employees' technology expertise and passion to have a positive impact in the world every day are what inspire my confidence that we can achieve our objectives for the next decade.”
