IFF Cuts Emissions 42% Since 2010
IFF announced May 13 that it achieved all its key sustainability targets set for 2020 and surpassed its emissions target by reducing greenhouse gas emissions 42.6% below 2010 levels.
The food, beverage and bioscience company released its latest sustainability report, titled “For a Better World,” which details its other climate accomplishments such as reaching 52% renewable electricity usage. In addition to its recent emissions reduction achievement, IFF continues to advance toward another Science-Based Target to reduce absolute emissions by 19.7% based on 2015 levels.
“Although 2020 was a year unlike any we could have predicted, I am proud to say that IFF rose to the challenges we faced and remained steadfast in our commitments to people and planet – further strengthening our sustainability leadership position,” CEO Andreas Fibig said in a statement. “As pleased as we are with our results, the solemnity of the urgent challenges that remain – from the climate emergency and nature loss to mounting inequality – compels us to do more, to do better. As we work toward a better world with the continued support of our employees, customers, suppliers and other partners, we look forward to building on our successes in 2020 and achieving even more ambitious environmental, social and governance (ESG) targets in the future.”
IFF will also work to report its emissions for the first time in alignment with the recommendation of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures. Looking to 2025, IFF is working to procure 75% of its energy use from renewable sources and engage suppliers representing 70% of its supply chain emissions to set their own emissions reduction strategies.
As of 2020, 43% of supply chain emissions were represented through its CDP Supply Chain platform and suppliers representing 31% of supply chain emissions were approved, committed to, or plan to set a Science-Based Target.
