Low-Income Housing Communities in Calif. Receive $150,000 in Energy Upgrades
Four affordable housing communities owned by LA Family Housing recently underwent $150,000 worth of energy efficiency upgrades.
The upgrades to the North Hollywood and Van Nuys buildings in California included high-efficiency boilers, water storage tanks, pipe insulation and more. The project was conducted through SoCalGas' Energy Savings Assistance program, which is ratepayer-funded and administered at the direction of the California Public Utilities Commission to provide low-income properties with energy savings upgrades free of charge.
"LA Family Housing is so grateful for our incredible partnership with SoCalGas which has allowed us to upgrade outdated systems at four of our affordable housing properties," Stephanie Klasky-Gamer, president and CEO of LA Family Housing, said in a statment. "Because of SoCalGas's generous support, we were able to create more energy efficient and affordable residences for people in our community. It takes a village to end homelessness, and we're so grateful to have the SoCalGas team in our corner."
Such projects executed by SoCalGas over the last five years have generated over $1 billion in energy cost savings and reduced 1.15 million metric tons of carbon dioxide. This has allowed SoCalGas' customers to save over $241 million in energy costs. The utility aims to achieve net-zero emissions in its operations and delivery of energy by 2045.
