London Installs Hydrogen Bus Fueling Station

The City of London, England announced on June 23 that it has added a hydrogen fuel station for 20 hydrogen buses out of Metroline’s Perivale depot in West London. This move is an effort to further London’s mayor’s transport strategy which includes decarbonizing the city’s bus network by making all of its 9,000 busses electric or hydrogen-fueled by 2037.

The buses are a competitive alternative to battery or diesel options. Hydrogen buses can store more energy onboard for longer routes. This state-of-the-art hydrogen station allows refueling hydrogen buses in minutes. This is a major benefit on the road to zero-emission, matching the time taken to fill up conventional buses.

Nel Hydrogen worked alongside consultancy Linesight to install the station.

“Transport for London (TfL) are forging the path for a sustainable business by 2037 and it has been a privilege working with them on their hydrogen-fueled bus program to date,” Karsten Poulsen, vice president of operations, Nel Hydrogen Fueling, said in a statement. “Our collaboration with Linesight has resulted in clear stakeholder management and prioritization of key activities enabling us to meet the expectations of TfL and open the hydrogen refueling facility efficiently.”
