Bloomberg Expands Community Solar Program to Over 4,800 Employees
Bloomberg announced July 15 that it will be offering access to community solar projects to more than 4,800 of its employees based in New York City.
Eligible employees will be able to enroll through Common Energy’s Clean Energy Benefit Program for power from solar projects owned and operated by UGE International. Employees who enroll in the program will receive clean energy credits on their electricity bill at no cost to Bloomberg or its employees.
“By giving our employees the option to support community solar projects everyone wins,” Beth Mazzeo, chief administrative officer at Bloomberg, said in a statement. “We raise awareness for the benefits of renewable energy, support local solar projects, lower emissions and fossil fuel consumption overall and on top of that our employees can lower their electricity bill each month.”
Bloomberg and Common Energy first partnered to provide community solar access to employees in October 2019, at the time available to over 260 employees. The current expansion will support solar projects in New York, New Jersey and Long Island.
Other such programs available to Bloomberg employees have generated approximately 14 million kWh of clean energy through partnerships with projects by ConEdison, Central Hudson Gas & Electric, Orange & Rockland Utilities, PSEG Long Island and PSEG New Jersey territories. These projects are expected to generate over 332 million kWh of clean energy and avoid 160 million pounds of CO2 during their lifetimes.
