PepsiCo Mexico announced It reached its goal to use 100% renewable electricity in all operations in the country six months ahead of schedule.
The company reached this goal using three sources of supply: wind farms, photovoltaic panels, and IRECs for solar and wind energy. “In the last 15 years, sustainability has become an imperative for our business, so this milestone is the result of our commitment to move forward with firm steps to make a change. real that lasts in time,” said Roberto Martinez, President of PepsiCo Mexico in a statement. “We have done this through an action plan that contemplates the reduction of GHG emissions in all our operations and throughout our supply chain ”.
PepsiCo’s global goals include achieving net zero emissions by 2040 – a decade ahead of the target set by the Paris Agreement – and a 75% reduction in absolute GHG emissions from direct operations by 2030.
PepsiCo Mexico specified four major initiatives at the center of its sustainability approach:
- Optimization of energy use in production processes, from manufacturing plants, warehouses, CEDIS (distribution centers) to vehicle fleet.
- An electricity supply scheme with 100% renewable energy.
