Amazon Inks PPA Through Collaboration with TotalEnergies
Amazon announced July 29 a new partnership with TotalEnergies that will help Amazon with its 100% renewable energy goal and help TotalEnergies accelerate its digital transformation.
Under the collaboration, TotalEnergies and Amazon signed a PPA for 474 MW of renewable energy capacity from TotalEnergies network in the US and Europe that will be provided to Amazon. This deal will help Amazon in its pursuit of powering its operations with 100% renewable energy by 2030 and reaching net-zero emissions by 2040.
In return, Amazon will help TotalEnergies digitize its operations by moving to the cloud and boosting its IT transformation through the use of Amazon Web Services (AWS). Using AWS High Performance Computing technology, TotalEnergies will look for opportunities to accelerate critical workflows.
“Working with TotalEnergies on innovative cloud technologies to drive reductions in carbon emissions and present new renewable energy sources is a tremendous opportunity,” Kathrin Buvac, vice president of AWS Strategic Industries, said in a statement. "This collaboration will not only accelerate TotalEnergies’ migration to the cloud but also contribute toward Amazon’s commitment to power our operations with 100 percent renewable energy.”
