Delta Electronics Signs Its First PPA
Delta Electronics announced Aug. 11 that it signed its first PPA for the procurement of approximately 19 million kWh of clean electricity.
The power and thermal management company signed an agreement with TCC Green Energy Corporation for energy from its 7.2 MW wind farm. The energy sourced from the wind facility is expected to reduce over 193,000 tons of carbon emissions.
As a member of the RE100 initiative, Delta is pursuing a target to reach 100% renewable energy and carbon-neutral global operations by 2030. The Taiwan-based company currently sources approximately 45.7% renewable energy.
“Going forward, this PPA model may be replicated to other Delta sites worldwide for our RE100 goal,” Delta CEO Ping Cheng said in a statement. “Delta has always been committed to environmental protection and actively engages in global environmental initiatives. After passing the Science-based Targets (SBT) in 2017, Delta aims to achieve a 56.6% decrease in its carbon intensity by 2025. By continuously executing three major relevant actions, including voluntary energy conservation, in-house solar power generation, and the purchase of renewable energy, Delta has already reduced its carbon intensity by over 55% in 2020.”
In addition to PPAs such as the one with TCC, Delta plans to achieve its RE100 goal through a combination of energy conservation measures, in-house solar generation and the purchase of RECs. The company estimates that its on-site solar facilities currently generate around 25.3 million kWh.
