Exasol Reaches Carbon-Neutral Operations with Offsets Purchases
Exasol announced Sept. 30 its new target to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% before 2030.
The analytics database company also reached carbon neutrality for its 2020 operations through the purchase of offsets. Its new targets are in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement and include a commitment to also monitor Scope 3 emissions in order to identify a pathway for reduction.
The offsets purchased by Exasol to achieve carbon-neutral operations will support two projects in the Amazon, Peru and Borneo, Indonesia. Both projects have been certified by the Gold Standard or the VCS Standard and focus on rainforest protection.
“We have now been certified as carbon neutral for 2019 and 2020, but this is only the beginning,” Mathias Golombek, CTO and Green Team ambassador at Exasol, said in a statement. “It is very important for us that we do everything we can to be as sustainable as possible. We only have one planet, and it is our duty to do our bit to protect it and look after it. It is not enough to pay to offset emissions, although we will continue to do so, but our goal is to significantly reduce our footprint across the board. The Exasol Green Team is doing a fantastic job of this already.”
