Dow Inks Eight New RE Deals Across Europe and North America

Dow announced Oct. 6 eight new renewable energy agreements that will reduce its emissions by more than 600,000 tons of CO2 annually.

The materials company completed deals for projects across Europe and the Americas totaling 132 MW. This brings its total renewable energy capacity to more than 850 MW.

Dow set an ambition in 2020 to reduce its annual emissions by 30% before 2030 on its path to carbon neutrality by 2050. In 2020, the company also sourced approximately 25% of its electricity supply from renewables.

The eight new agreements include six in Europe that will allow eight Dow sites in Spain, the U.K., Sweden, France and Germany to power their operations with 100% clean electricity. The other two agreements will support the construction of a new wind farm in Brazil that will provide the company with 60 MW of power and a wind farm in Alberta, Canada that will replace 40% of the electricity used at Dow’s Prentiss site.

“Dow's ambition to be the most sustainable materials science company in the world includes making efforts to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. As one of the leading purchasers of clean power in the chemical industry and among the top 20 clean energy purchasers of corporations globally, we continually pursue opportunities to move our sites to cleaner, more cost-effective power while ensuring reliable operations,” Jack Broodo, president of Dow Feedstocks and Energy, said in a statement. “These agreements will keep Dow competitive now and into the future as we continue to deliver products and innovations that ultimately keep carbon emissions out of the environment.”
