Las Vegas Explores Digital Twin Technology for Emissions Cuts

Las Vegas will soon be deploying 5G networking and IoT and Digital Twin technology to accelerate its transition to zero carbon emissions and reduce the operating costs of the city’s buildings.

The city will receive these technological solutions from Cityzenith as part of its “Clean Cities - Clean Future” initiative. The use of such technology is expected to improve mobility, air quality, noise pollution, water management and emissions from major buildings.

“Digital Twins are rapidly becoming vital to how cities are run,” Michael Sherwood, Las Vegas chief innovation officer, said in a statement. “Now in Las Vegas we will have a city-scale digital twin that is driven by the physical environment, and ultimately letting us control key systems through it. “This will give us new levels of insights and control to benefit city planners, residents, and businesses. We're setting the benchmark for cities around the world to become smarter, efficient, safer and more sustainable.”

IoT data from local government agencies, building operators, transportation systems and vehicle manufacturers will be synthesized by Terbine in order to provide sensor information needed by the urban Digital Twin technology. Las Vegas is the second city to participate in the Clean Cities - Clean Future program behind New York.
