Agilent Technologies Aims for 2050 Net Zero
Agilent Technologies announced Oct. 27 that it intends to reach net-zero emissions by 2050 at the latest.
In the interim, the life sciences company is committed to reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% and Scope 3 emissions by 30-40% by 2030 from 2019 levels. Agilent will focus on investing in renewable energy and targeting the areas with the greatest carbon footprint: purchased goods and services, sold products and transportation and distribution.
“Agilent has been committed to sustainability and environmental protection since our founding,” President and CEO Mike McMullen said in a statement. “This commitment to net zero is consistent with our history and our mission of delivering insights that advance the quality of life. Agilent, with our culture of innovation, is in a strong position to contribute important solutions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Our commitment to net zero isn’t just the ‘right thing’ to do. It’s aligned with our core business objectives as well.”
Agilent is also committing to the Science Based Targets initiative’s Business Ambition for 1.5°C and will adopt the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) recommendations.
