City of Rocky Ford Launches Community Solar Program

The City of Rocky Ford, Colo., announced Nov. 2 that it has subscribed to a local community solar garden that will give businesses, public entities and residents the option to receive solar-powered energy.

Under the program, administered by US Solar, subscribers will receive a bill credit on their electric bill based on the energy produced in the solar garden. The City of Rocky Ford subscribed to US Solar’s 2.5 MW USS Giveback Solar project, located in the Black Hills Energy utility territory. US Solar will allocate generation capacity to the City and to residential and commercial customers, with 600 kW of capacity reserved for low-income subscribers.

“Subscribing to US Solar's Solar Garden allows our community to benefit from solar without any upfront costs or additional facilities to maintain,” Shannon Wallace, Rocky Ford's city manager, said in a statement. “US Solar made it simple to sign up and enroll our city in this exciting program.”
