Thales Receives SBTi Approval
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) approved Thales’ GHG emissions reduction targets for 2030.
Thales – an advanced technologies company in defense and security, aeronautics and space, and digital identity and security – confirmed its commitment to reduce by 50.4% the absolute CO2 emissions related to its operational processes (Scope 1) and its energy consumption (Scope 2) compared with the 2018 baseline year, a 1.5°C-aligned target. The Group also confirmed its commitment to reduce by 15% the absolute CO2 emissions related to its supply chain and to its clients' use of Thales products (Scope 3) compared with the 2018 baseline year.
“I am very pleased that Thales has obtained this validation from the SBTi, which demonstrates that our strategy for a low-carbon future makes a tangible contribution to the Paris Agreement’s ambition to limit climate change," said Patrice Caine, Thales’ Chairman and CEO, in a statement. "To achieve our objectives, outside of the energy efficiency and sobriety of our operations, we are supporting our suppliers in reducing their carbon footprint and supporting our clients in achieving their climate objectives through innovative solutions."
Thales reinforced its strategy for a low-carbon future in 2021 by accelerating the reduction of operations-related CO2 emissions (Scopes 1 and 2) to aim for net zero by 2040, increasing the engagement of its entire supply chain, and deploying eco-design for product innovation.
