Del Monte Foods Lowers Emissions

Del Monte Foods, Inc. announced that the company saw a 6% reduction in Scope 1, 2 and 3 total emissions since 2021 and set a net-zero target, committing to carbon reduction targets in line with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) Net Zero Standard.

The company also calculated new 2030 carbon reduction targets in line with the Forest, Land and Agriculture (FLAG) science-based target-setting guidance, which they seek to submit in fiscal year 2024.

Del Monte Foods plans by 2025 to increase truckload efficiency to 7.5 miles per gallon, lower carbon emissions and measure Scope 3 third-party emissions and lower empty miles driven from the supply chain by 20%.

At the company’s processing plants, energy-efficient equipment for new installations were purchased. The Hanford, California, facility cut their natural gas consumption by switching to a smaller boiler during their off-season. The company also replaced the lighting in its Hanford plant with energy-efficient LED lights.

Details were published in its fiscal year 2023 Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) Report.

"At a time when concern over global resources and food insecurity are on the rise, I'm proud to lead a company that is committed to reducing our impact on the environment, championing the diversity of our team members and giving back to the communities in which we live and work," said Greg Longstreet, President and CEO of Del Monte Foods in a statement. "Thanks to the efforts of our committed Del Monte Foods team members, we continue to make progress toward our 2025 ESG goals and have already reached many of them."
