Consolidated Communications Increases RE
Consolidated Communications, a fiber provider, reported 32.4% of its electricity came from renewable sources and increased its use of renewable energy by 90 basis points.
The company also reported improvements in both Scope1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions.
As published in its 2023 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report, for the year ending Dec. 31, 2023, Consolidated reports a 15% reduction in total electricity usage from 2022.
The company updated 26 boilers and HVAC systems with high-efficiency units; added motion-sensitive lighting in certain offices; employed active-monitoring of heating and cooling facilities to adjust to changes in ambient temperature and humidity; and upgraded old, inefficient equipment.
Consolidated Communications is evaluating community solar initiatives across 10 states where the company operates. The company’s largest share of participation is in Maine, Illinois and Minnesota, respectively, with more initiatives expected to come online in 2024. These three states with community solar projects are projected to inject more than 23,000 MWHs of renewable energy into the grid annually.
In 2023, the company added eight electric vehicles to its California fleet in accordance with the state’s regulations.
“We are building a more sustainable business that continues to enrich the communities we serve through ongoing fiber expansion, community investments and continuing to run an ethical, transparent business,” said Bob Udell, president and chief executive office of Consolidated, in a statement. “As a fiber-first company, our ESG goals are aligned with our company mission and values. I’m proud of the work Consolidated employees put in every day to continue to take care of our communities, our environment and each other.”
