EPA Provides $4.3 Billion in Climate Grants

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced 25 selected applications for over $4.3 billion in grants to implement community-driven solutions to lower air pollution and accelerate the clean energy transition.

The selected applications will fund state, local and Tribal entities located in 30 states and will use the funding to implement ambitious local and regional climate pollution reduction measures to significantly lower GHG by 2030, according to a statement

The grants will be funded through the Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) program, which was created under the Inflation Reduction Act as part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda.

The 25 selected applications came from states, local governments, Tribes and coalitions of these entities across the country and will result in significant benefits including climate benefits, air quality improvements, lower energy bills, cleaner water, and greater access to green space and public transportation.

These implementation grants complement the $250 million in CPRG planning grants awarded in 2023 to 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, 82 metropolitan statistical areas, four territories and more than 200 Tribes.

The breakdown of the funding in each sector is as follows:

  • Transportation: $1.18 billion
  • Electric Power: $372 million
  • Buildings: $1.06 billion
  • Industry: $636 million
  • Agriculture and Natural and Working Lands: $931 million
  • Waste and Materials Management: $121 million

The proposed projects in the selected applications target greenhouse gas pollution from six sectors: Transportation, Electric Power, Buildings, Industry, Agriculture and Natural and Working Lands, and Waste and Materials Management.
