New initiative in Hawaiʻi could change the world’s carbon footprint (KHON2)  A new innovative project which involves growing camelina sativa, a versatile oilseed plant, on farms across the Hawaiian Islands to produce renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is making big waves in farming in Hawaiʻi.

Utilities are trying hydrogen-blended fuels. There are a lot of ‘unknowns.’ (Floodlight News)  Nearly 20 utilities have laid out plans to inject lines with a blend of gas and hydrogen, the latter of which emits no carbon dioxide (CO2) — a major greenhouse gas — when combusted. Testing such blends, these companies say, is an essential step towards understanding the practice, which they argue will help reduce emissions and fight climate change.

It aims to cut global methane emissions by at least 30% from 2020 levels by 2030. But making pledges is one thing; honouring them is another. So, with COP29 later this year in Azerbaijan, we must ask ourselves: who is keeping their promises?
