TOPPAN Group’s Targets Receive SBTi Validation

TOPPAN Holdings Inc received a net-zero target validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for the TOPPAN Group’s GHG emission reduction targets for the entire value chain, including Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.

A global provider that delivers sustainable, integrated solutions in fields including printing, communications, security, packaging, décor materials, electronics and digital transformation, the  TOPPAN Group obtained SBTi approval in 2019 and 2022. In 2023, the company revised the TOPPAN Group Environmental Vision 2050 and the TOPPAN Group Medium-and-Long-Term Environmental Targets for Fiscal 2030 by expanding the scope and setting more ambitious targets, according to a statement

The new SBTi approval validates that the revised long-term and short-term targets are net-zero targets that are science based and consistent with the levels for the 1.5℃ threshold targeted by the Paris Agreement.

The new long-term target is 2050 to achieve net-zero Scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions.

The new 2030 goals include the following:

  • Scope1+2 GHG emissions: Reduce by 54.6% (by 847 kt-CO₂e) compared to the fiscal 2017 level  (1,552 kt-CO₂e)                       (Renewable energy ratio of 25%)
  • Scope 3 GHG emissions: Reduce by 54.6% (by 3,769 kt-CO₂e) compared to the fiscal 2017 level (6,904 kt-CO₂e).
