Clearwater Paper Develops Emissions Roadmap
Clearwater Paper Corporation, a supplier of paperboard and private brand tissue, developed a roadmap for the company to meet its 2030 Scope 1 and 2 emissions targets, which have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
The company also received the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) as part of its work with Charter Next Generation (CNG).
Clearwater Paper lowered its Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 1.2% in 2023 from a 2021 baseline.
In 2023, the company improved its data inputs and continued to work with suppliers and customers toward identifying means to reduce its Scope 3 emissions. The company’s goal is to reduce Scope 3 emissions by 25% by 2030 from a 2021 baseline.
According to its 2024 Sustainability Report, the company also invested over $1 million to complete eight projects in 2023, which included implementing lighting upgrades, automation of equipment to ensure maximum efficiency, removal of diesel generators and more.
“Reflecting on 2023, I am pleased with what we accomplished throughout the year,” said Arsen Kitch, president and chief executive officer, in a statement. “All our people play a role – every day – in ensuring that we make and deliver excellent products in sustainable ways and work collaboratively with our stakeholders and each other. As we transform Clearwater into a paperboard packaging supplier, we will continue to focus on improving the sustainability of our products and processes.”
