FrieslandCampina Receives SBTi Approval

FrieslandCampina, a dairy products company, announced the  Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) approved its tightened near-term science-based emissions reduction targets.

In line with SBTi's requirements, the company has broken down its emission targets for Scope 1, 2 and 3 into emissions from forestry, land use and agriculture (FLAG emissions) and other emissions, according to a statement

In addition to the breakdown of emission targets, the base year has been adjusted from 2015 to 2020, allowing for more accurate reporting. Additionally, FrieslandCampina will report on more emission sources from 2025 onwards. The new 1.5ºC-aligned emission reduction targets are:

  • 30.3% reduction of absolute Scope 1 and 3 FLAG GHG  emissions by 2030 from the 2020 base year
  • 42.13% reduction of absolute Scope 1, 2 and 3 non-Flag (or Energy & Industry related) GHG emissions by 2030 from the 2020 base year

FrieslandCampina has already committed to set near-term company-wide emissions reduction targets in line with climate science with the SBTi in 2020. The updated targets to the latest methodology were assessed in 2024 and approved by SBTi in early 2025.

FrieslandCampina's goal is to achieve net climate-neutral production by 2050 at the latest.
