Playfields Park Adds EV Charging
The City of Davis in California purchased a second solar microgrid electric vehicle (EV) charging station for Playfields Park.
The charging station, installed by Paired Power, provides free and sustainable charging to the community. The Playfields Park PairTree features two EV charging ports and can deliver a Level 2 charging rate of up to 7.7kW for one vehicle or 4kW per vehicle for two vehicles charging simultaneously.
Unlike traditional EV chargers, the PairTree™ system's solar integration enables off-grid operation, ensuring reliable charging even during power outages. The system contributes to energy savings and allows for quick, one-day installation. Paired Power’s designed-for-reliability software ensures 99.7% charging uptime.
To use the PairTree chargers at Playfields Park, users plug in their vehicles to begin charging — no apps, cards, or accounts required. However, parking at the EV spaces will be subject to the park’s two-hour parking limit to ensure fair access for all.
"The installation at Playfields Park is an exciting development for Davis," said Davis Mayor Bapu Vaitla in a statement. "This park is a central recreational hub for families and athletes, and we’re very happy to partner with Paired Power to offer free, renewable electric car charging as part of the City's clean energy initiatives. As we continue to expand our charging infrastructure, we will continue to ensure that sustainable transportation is accessible to everyone."
The installation is a part of the city’s Electrify Yolo initiative, which aims to expand public access to EV charging. The Electrify Yolo project is being spearheaded by the City of Davis in partnership with Yolo County, Valley Clean Energy Alliance, and the cities of Winters and Woodland. The project, funded by the 2018 SACOG Green Region grant, supports the expansion of EV infrastructure across the region. The new installation at Playfields Park marks another step toward reducing the city’s carbon footprint and making clean transportation more accessible.
