Wind farms supplying power to P&G, Salesforce, sold
The 126-MW Texas wind project that is expected to generate enough renewable energy to power all of Procter & Gamble's fabric and home care plants in the U.S. and Canada has entered commercial operation.
P&G signed a PPA with the project's developer, EDF Renewable Energy, in late 2015 for 80% of the facility's output. Around the same time as that announcement, P&G became a signatory of the 'American Business Act on Climate Pledge,' and set its target to achieve 30% renewable energy to power its plants globally by 2020, with along-term vision to use 100% renewable energy.
The Tyler Bluff Wind Facility, which consists of 52 Siemens wind turbines, is located in Cooke County, Texas. P&G Global Climate and Energy Leader Steve Skarda recently discussed the importance of the project to his company in this Smart Energy Decisions webinar.
Southern Company subsidiary Southern Power has closed on purchase and sale agreements to acquire 100% ownership interest in the Tyler Bluff wind farm, along with a separate 174-MW EDF wind farm that has offtake agreements with the city of Garland, Texas, and cloud computing company Salesforce.com, EDF said in a Dec. 22 news release.
