Dealership to install 3rd rooftop solar project

Gengras Motor Cars, an East Hartford, Conn., car dealership company, is in the process of having a 418 kW rooftop solar project installed at its Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram facility.

The company partnered with Ross Solar, a Con Edison Solutions company,  to install the project, which is the car dealship group's third.

"Solar is an important component of our long-term strategy, helping us to reduce operational expenses and remain competitive, while underscoring our commitment as a responsible corporate partner to grow renewable energy in East Hartford," Gengras Motor Cars Co-Owner Jonathan Gengras said in a news release from Ross Solar.

The project will utilize SunPower's "Helix" roof solution, which is a fully integrated commercial solar power platform, and will incorporate 954 solar panels. In 2015, the companies partnered on two seperate projects for Gengras Motor Cars at their Volvo and Chevrolet facilities, totaling 418 kilowatts in size.

The project was made possible through awards that Ross Solar secured on Gengras Motor Cars' behalf through the Connecticut zero emission renewable energy credit program offered by Eversource, the local electric utility.

Con Edison Solutions, a subsidiary of Consolidated Edison Inc., acquired Ross Solar, which sells solar to commercial, municipal and residential customers throughout the Northeast, in January.
