Jaguar Land Rover signs 100% renewable energy deal
Jaguar Land Rover announced earlier this month that it sealed an agreement to buy all its U.K. electricity from renewable sources up through March 2020.
Jaguar Land Rover's electricity supply is backed by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin, or REGO, meaning a proportion of its supplier's renewable energy is ring-fenced specifically for the company. The deal was signed with integrated U.K. energy company EDF Energy, and the REGO scheme certifies that Jaguar Land Rover's portion of electric supply will come from renewable generation, according to a March 8 news release.
"Our future is low-carbon, clean and efficient," Jaguar Land Rover's Ian Harnett, executive director of human resources and global purchasing said in a statement. "Our program to reduce our burden on the National Grid doesn't end here: we seek continual improvements, both in how we can reduce energy consumption further and how to minimize our carbon emissions."
Harnett said the company's goal is to give customers assurance that Jaguar Land Rover's electricity will come from renewable sources, including the solar array at its engine manufacturing center in Wolverhampton, which is one of the largest rooftop installations in Europe.
Jaguar Land Rover's renewables purchasing program operates within a wider context of sustainability, detailed on its website.
