Salesforce hits 100% RE for 2 office buildings
Cloud computing and customer relationship management company Salesforce.com Inc. announced Aug. 7 that two of its office towers in San Francisco are now sourcing 100% renewable energy.
The two buildings, which are both also LEED Platinum certified, are sourcing renewable energy through the San Francisco Public Utility Commission's community choice aggregation program, CleanPowerSF. California's community choice aggregation program allows cities and counties to partner with their investor owned utility, PG&E, to deliver clean power to businesses and residents.
"At a time when states, cities, colleges and universities, businesses and investors are working together to take action and ensure that the U.S. remains a global leader in reducing emissions, Salesforce is proud to support San Francisco's transition to a low-carbon economy," the company said in a blog post.
Salesforce said its work with CleanPowerSF balances the low cost of renewable energy with the financial certainty that project developers need to invest in new, local wind and solar projects. The company says it is the largest commercial customers of the program to date.
The announcement builds on Salesforce's net-zero greenhouse gas emissions achievement from earlier this year, and marks a milestone toward reaching its broader 100% renewable energy target.
