Solar to offset 80% of winery's electric needs

San Antonio Winery, the founding winery of Riboli Family Wine Estates, recently completed a solar project at a new production facility and hospitality center in Paso Robles, Calif.
The 517-kW rooftop solar installation is expected to generate about 80% of the energy needed for the facility and is expected to reduce electricity costs by more than $4 million over the next 30 years, according to an Aug. 22 joint news release with REC Solar, which designed and built the project. The rooftop project uses 1,520 panels across approximately 100,000 square feet of roof space, making it .
Fourth-generation family winemaker Anthony Riboli said the solar project is an example of the type of innovation that has helped make the business successful as Riboli Family Wine Estates celebrates their 100th-anniversary producing wine this year.
"We are blessed to work in a beautiful area with a climate that provides us with plenty of sunshine," Riboli said. "Using that sun to generate our own renewable power on our rooftop is a huge win. It empowers us to minimize our impact on the environment, create more predictable costs and produce incredible wine in our sustainable, modern facility."
