Ameren Missouri approved for largest wind facility in state's history
Ameren Missouri was approved to construct and operate a 400 MW wind farm, known as the High Prairie Wind Farm, which when completed will be the largest wind facility in the state's history.
The Missouri electric utility was granted a certificate of convenience and necessity (CCN) on Oct. 24 by the Missouri Public Service Commission. The facility is expected to be located in Schuyler and Adair counties in northeast Missouri, according to a press release.
The announcement of the project's approval follows an announcement of a different 157 MW wind farm Ameren Missouri plans to acquire in northwest Missouri, which the company announced on Oct. 22.
Ameren Missouri has previously set a carbon emission reduction goal of 80% by 2050.
The plans for the project were solidified through a Build Transfer Agreement agreement between Ameren Missouri and TG High Prairie Holdings, a special-purpose entity formed by TG Holdings specifically for the completion of the project. After the wind facility is built, TG High Prairie plans to merge into Ameren Missouri.
Earlier this year, the Missouri General Assembly passed legislation that includes a $1 billion plan from Ameren Missouri to upgrade and modernize the state's grid, as well as provides up to $28 million in solar rebates for customers starting in 2019.
"This is an important next step in the process to develop more renewable energy in the state for the long-term benefit of our customers," Michael Moehn, president of Ameren Missouri, said about the wind facility project.
