Hormel Foods achieves 10% drop in energy use
Hormel Foods surpassed their nonrenewable energy reduction goal and is on track to achieve their emissions reduction goals as outlined in their newly released 2018 sustainability report.
In 2018, the food manufacturer reduced over 8,900 metric tons of emissions for their operations, which is 67% of their goal to reduce emissions by 10% by 2020. Additionally, they successfully reduced nonrenewable energy use by 10% ahead of their 2020 goal by reducing that energy use by more than 128,000 MMBtu.
"We are making the world a better place by investing in our people and partners, improving communities around the world and creating products that improve the lives of others," Jim Snee, chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer of Hormel Foods, said in a statement. "I am extremely proud of our accomplishments as a leading corporate citizen and of all of our team members, partners and suppliers who are part of our efforts. Together we are making meaningful progress on Our Food Journey and will continue to do so."
Hormel Foods plans to bring a 74 MW wind farm online in order to meet its emissions reduction goals by 2020.
