New York State unveils newest community solar project
The Town of Denmark, N.Y., became the site of a new 7.2 MW community solar project that will provide clean energy to customers anywhere in National Grid’s existing distribution system.
The Denmark Community Solar Project is located in Lewis County and is already producing more than 8.9 million kWh of clean energy annually. According to project developers, the ground-mounted solar array is the second-largest community solar system in the state. Customers across the country who would otherwise not have access to rooftop solar will be able to benefit from the project as part of New York State’s Community Solar Program.
“As Lewis County continues to be a leader in renewable energy, we are pleased to see the completion of this project that not only provides the benefit of clean energy for our residents and businesses but also provides economic opportunities for our communities,” Brittany Davis, executive director of the Lewis County Economic Development/IDA, said in a statement.
The project received funding from Gov. Cuomo’s NY-Sun initiative through the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. The system was developed by U.S. Light Energy and will be owned and operated by Standard Solar.
