Intel commits to 100% global RE by 2030
Intel announced May 14 in their 2019 Corporate Responsibility Report that they are committed to sourcing 100% of their power from renewable sources by 2030 and have achieved their target of 4 billion kWh in energy savings between 2012 and 2020.
The tech giant reported that they are exploring technology that would increase their sustainability and enable strategies such as reducing power usage or developing longer-term, energy-efficient architectures. From 2012 to 2020, they successfully achieved cumulative energy savings of more than 4.5 billion kWh through more than 2,000 energy conservation projects.
“Intel and many others in technology-driven industries see the opportunity to leverage our R&D, creativity, expertise and influence to collaborate on these critical issues and will become even stronger and more relevant as a result,” CEO Bob Swan said in a statement. “For Intel, it’s embedded in our purpose to create world-changing technology that enriches the lives of every person on Earth.”
Since 2000, Intel decreased absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by approximately 31%. By the end of 2019, they had also reduced direct emissions intensity by 39% since 2010. At the end of 2019, 71% of their global operations were powered with renewable sources; European operations reached 100%.
