Voya adds 350 kW of onsite solar at new office location
Voya Financial announced Oct. 29 the construction of solar carports at its new office in Chandler, Ariz., that could offset more than 663,600 kWh of electricity in its first year of operation.
The 350 kW installation was installed by Sun Valley Solar Solutions and is expected to offset nearly 520,000 pounds of burned coal in its first year. The system, which includes the installation of the parking garage, solar panels, LED lighting and control systems from Hawkins Design Group, will provide up to 32% of the 150,000-square-foot facility’s total energy use during its expected 30-year lifespan.
“Clean energy was the start of our environmental sustainability efforts more than 13 years ago. It has expanded over the years to include a variety of environmental-sustainability aspects in nearly every facility we occupy, as well as every equipment-planning and purchasing decision we make,” Maggie Parent, EVP and chief administrative officer at Voya Financial, said in a statement. “Our new Chandler facility advances our commitment to reducing our environmental footprint, while capturing long-term savings – a win for our communities, Voya and the entire team who brought our vision to life.”
In addition to a solar system, the installation includes LED lighting with automatic controls, large windows to decrease the need for daytime lighting, HVAC temperature controls to adjust the facility heating and cooling based on occupancy and electric vehicle charging stations.
