Hasbro reaches RE target with offsets and credits
Hasbro announced Nov. 24 that it achieved 99.4% renewable energy sourcing through investment in renewable energy credits and carbon offsets in 2019 and 2020.
The games and entertainment company’s newly released 2019-2020 Corporate Social Responsibility Update also detailed its achieved targets of establishing a goal to eliminate all plastic in the packaging of new products by the end of 2022 and expanding its toy recycling program to six countries.
"While we have made great strides across all of our CSR priorities, we recognize that we are on an ongoing journey," Kathrin Belliveau, senior vice president of Global Government, Regulatory Affairs and CSR, said in a statement.. “We are committed to building and executing innovative, best-in-class CSR and ESG strategies and programs that resonate with our stakeholders. We will continue to evaluate our commitments and set new targets so that we can ensure that our products and business practices live up to our purpose of making the world a better place for all children and all families.”
Hasbro became the first in its industry to pilot the Higg Index, which is a metric developed by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition to assess the environmental impact of suppliers. In 2019 and 2020, 89% of Hasbro’s suppliers participated in the environmental assessment tool.
