Alcoa Shares Progress Towards Emissions Goals
In its 2020 Sustainability Report, mining company Alcoa Corporation shared progress towards its goals to reduce emissions in alignment with the Paris Climate Accord.
The corporation’s climate accomplishments include
- 14.6% emissions reduction since 2015
- 78% renewable energy sources for the mining operations’ smelters
- Development of sustainable, low-carbon aluminum products
These successes bring Alcoa nearer its GHG emissions intensity targets: 30% reduction by 2025, and 50% by 2030.
“Our latest sustainability report highlights the important work we accomplished in 2020 in the midst of one of the most challenging years for our Company and the world,” said Roy Harvey, Alcoa President and CEO, in a statement. “Our firmly rooted commitment to our values and our strategic priority to Advance Sustainably helped our employees, their families, and our host communities navigate the pandemic while delivering results that reflect our sustainability leadership.”
