ExxonMobil Increases Purchase of Renewable Diesel
ExxonMobil is expanding its five-year agreement with Global Clean Energy to increase its purchase of renewable diesel.
The expansion of the agreement will see ExxonMobil doubling its purchasing up to 5 million barrels per year from Global Clean Energy’s Bakersfield biorefinery. The energy company will be the exclusive buyer of the fuel from the biorefinery, which is set to begin production in early 2022.
“Our expanded agreement with Global Clean Energy reinforces ExxonMobil’s longstanding efforts to support society’s ambitions for lower-emission fuels,” Ian Carr, president of ExxonMobil Fuels and Lubricants Company, said in a statement. “Through our growing relationship, we remain focused on bringing renewable fuels to market that make meaningful contributions to help consumers reduce their emissions.”
Global Clean Energy’s renewable diesel is produced in part through camelina crop and can provide an estimated 40-80% reduction in life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions. The biorefinery will process up to 15,000 barrels per day of renewable feedstock, including a mix of the camelina and various sources like cooking oil, soybean oil, and distillers’ corn oil.
