The Acer Group Targets 100% Renewable Energy
The Acer Group announced May 27 that it is committing to 100% renewable energy use by 2035 and is joining the RE100 initiative.
The information technology company has been integrating renewable energy into its electricity supply since 2013 and by 2020 reached 44% renewable energy use.
Acer has been increasing its sustainability commitments since it adopted the CDP’s global disclosure system to manage its supply chain in 2008. In 2020 the company achieved its target of reducing worldwide carbon emissions by 60%.
“I am so touched to see Acer employees and partners come together, knowing that they have the ability to make decisions to protect our environment for future generations,” Tiffany Huang, co-chief operating officer at Acer Inc., said in a statement. “We already have the commitment of AUO, Compal, Innolux, and Quanta, and look forward to welcoming more partners to join the Acer Earthion mission to speed up the development of green designs and processes, and support our goal of 100% renewable energy for a sustainable planet.”
These new targets are a part of Acer’s “Earthion” initiative, focused on improving sustainability across all aspects of its operations including energy use, product and packaging design, and production and logistics. These values are all represented in the launch of Acer’s newest sustainably designed product, the Aspire Vero Notebook.
