Anheuser-Busch Achieves 100% RE Four Years Early

Anheuser-Busch’s entire portfolio of domestic beer and seltzer brands are now being brewed with 100% renewable energy, ahead of schedule for its original 2025 target.

The brewer reached this goal with the purchase of energy from a 222 MW solar project in Texas, which comes online this month. The solar project was developed by Recurrent Energy and represents the beverage industry’s largest solar project in the United States.

“At Anheuser-Busch we dream big in everything we do, including our commitment to creating a more sustainable future for our partners, our consumers, and our communities,” CEO Michel Doukeris said in a statement. “Achieving this ambitious sustainability goal four years early means that each time someone reaches for an Anheuser-Busch product, they are choosing one that contributes to a more sustainable future.”

The new Texas solar farm complements its previously installed 152 MW wind farm in Thunder Ranch, Okla., by Enel Green Power.

Anheuser-Busch has added nearly 400 MW of renewable energy capacity through these solar and wind projects and 10 additional installations at its flagship breweries, distributorship, and craft partner breweries. These projects should, in total, offset more than 950,000 metric tons of CO2 annually.

To celebrate reaching its goal four years early, Anheuser-Busch will be donating $100,000 to the Green Restaurant Association.
