San Diego Airport Reaches 100% RE Use
San Diego International Airport (SAN) will soon be sourcing 100% renewable energy to power its operations.
The airport will receive the power from San Diego Community Power (SDCP) through its Power100 service level. This reflects a continuation of the airport’s environmental initiatives including being one of the first major U.S. airports to institute sustainability policies.
“Having the opportunity to work with San Diego Community Power enables us to reach our goal of 100 percent renewable electricity well before our planned timing of 2035,” Kimberly Becker, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority president and CEO, said in a statement. “SDCP’s ability to provide reliable, zero-carbon energy at competitive costs is a gamechanger for us and everyone in the region.”
Nonprofit SDCP offers its clean energy services to a range of commercial and industrial customers in the Southern California region, under both its PowerOn level for 50% renewable energy and Power 100 level for 100%. SDG&E continues to deliver customers their power, manage monthly billing and provide ongoing maintenance.
