SITE Centers Releases 2020 Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Report
SITE Centers Corp., which owns suburban open-air shopping centers in affluent communities, has released its 2020 Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Report to share progress on a variety of sustainability metrics.
Environmental highlights include:
- Converting metal halide fixtures to LED parking lot fixtures
- Installing white reflective roofs to reduce the urban heat island effect
- Reducing like-for-like energy consumption by 4.1% over 2019 at SITE’s wholly-owned assets
- Operating electric car charging stations that facilitated charging sessions to provide necessary infrastructure for electric vehicle utilization
- Installing solar panels at 13 owned and managed properties to generate 3,268 megawatt-hours of renewable power in 2020
- Employing water conservation strategies
- Identifying tenant recycling and composting opportunities to divert approximately 30% of waste from landfills
- Including green lease language in 79% of new leases
“I am excited to present our 2020 Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Report, which is our seventh sustainability report and our fifth formal report completed to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards,” David Lukes, President, and Chief Executive Officer of SITE, said in a statement. “Looking back, I find that despite its challenges, 2020 was a year that underscored the factors that make SITE Centers excel; namely, the dedicated, hardworking, and thoughtful individuals who continue to work tirelessly toward a more sustainable, more inclusive, and more community-oriented future.”
