Penske, ROUSH, Proterra Collaborate on Electric Truck
Penske Truck Leasing is teaming up with ROUSH CleanTech and Proterra to develop the next-generation model of the Ford F-650 all-electric commercial truck.
Under the partnership, Proterra will supply its battery technology and ROUSH CleanTech will provide its advanced clean technology and control systems to the development of Ford’s medium-duty chassis. The three companies will also collaborate on the development of charging infrastructure that assists the transition to all-electric fleets.
Penske Truck Leasing will be the first customer of the new product, which will be a Class 6 commercial electric vehicle available in several configurations including utility trucks, shuttle buses and box trucks. The model is expected to be delivered in Q2 of 2023.
Proterra’s battery system can provide 165 kWh of energy, which will deliver an estimated 125 miles of range on a single charge.
“We remain committed to being at the forefront of vehicle electrification and making impactful sustainability strides within our industry. This collaboration is another step towards a more sustainable future in trucking,” Paul Rosa, senior vice president of procurement and fleet planning at Penske Truck Leasing, said in a statement. “We plan to deploy and operate these vehicles in multiple markets.”
