San Francisco Integrates Electric Buses Into City Fleet
San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) will soon be adding electric-hybrid buses to its city fleet.
The buses will integrate an electric hybrid propulsion system provided by Allison Transmission, in partnership with ElDorado National (ENC). The contract with SFMTA includes the delivery of 30 electric hybrid heavy-duty 30-foot transit buses.
The system is expected to reduce bus fuel consumption by up to 25% compared to conventional diesel models. The technology also features regenerative braking, which converts the vehicle’s kinetic energy into stored electric energy when decelerating or stopping.
“We are proud to support SFMTA in its efforts to modernize its Muni fleet with ENC,” Rohan Barua, vice president of North America sales, global channel and aftermarket at Allison Transmission, said in a statement. “Allison’s electric hybrid solutions for transit buses are proven to demonstrate bottom-line operating benefits for municipalities and fleets all over the world while delivering industry-leading performance, reliability and durability, for nearly two decades and over several million miles of operation.”
SFMTA should receive the new bus models beginning in the second quarter of 2022.
