Boom Supersonic Signs SAF Agreement for Supersonic Airliner
Boom Supersonic, the company designing a passenger supersonic airliner, announced it signed a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) offtake agreement that will provide the company with up to 5 million gallons of SAF annually throughout the Overture flight test program.
Boom developed Overture, a supersonic airliner, which will fly at speeds twice as fast as today’s commercial jets on 100% SAF.
The company partnered with Dimensional Energy, which produces carbon-neutral fuels and products by recycling carbon dioxide.
“At Boom, we believe sustainable aviation fuel will be essential to the transformation of air travel,” said Kathy Savitt, President and Chief Business Officer at Boom, in a statement. “Our new collaboration with Dimensional Energy represents another important step to making sustainable supersonic flight a reality for millions of passengers in the coming years.”
Boom will leverage Dimensional Energy’s proprietary carbon utilization technology and the Fischer-Tropsch process, which has proven to be an effective method to produce net zero carbon SAF from recycled carbon dioxide.
This agreement marks the latest milestone on Boom’s journey to sustainable supersonic flight. The company has already secured 10 million gallons of SAF. With plans to achieve net zero carbon by 2025, Boom is building on its progress. Specifically, the company achieved carbon neutrality through reduction initiatives and high-quality carbon credits in 2021.
Highlights will be released in June in its 2022 Environmental Sustainability Report.
