Weekend Reads: Green Hydrogen's Hurdles; Manure-Powered Energy
It's the weekend! Kick back and catch up with these must-read articles from around the web:
Green hydrogen’s hype hits some very expensive hurdles (Forbes) Clean hydrogen has been heralded as a carbon-free fuel that’s key to efforts to remediate the climate crisis. It would help clean up dirty industries like chemical and steel production, be a source of clean transportation fuel and help the U.S. hit a goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. But getting things started isn’t going so well. After years of hype, fundraising, and billions of dollars of federal support to get a green hydrogen market off the ground, there’s growing pessimism over how fast the carbon-free fuel can ramp up.
Weather-related power outages rising (Climate Central) Climate Central analyzed U.S. power outage data between 2000 and 2023, as reported by utility companies. Major outages are events that affect at least 50,000 customers (homes or businesses) or interrupt service of 300 megawatts or more.

4 lessons from the renewables playbook for today’s clean infrastructure boom (World Economic Forum) Globally, we’ve entered an exciting period for next generation clean infrastructure but we’re not getting steel in the ground fast enough to meet our net zero goals. To match the urgency of our climate emergency, we must find ways to accelerate the deployment of cutting-edge carbon management technologies, especially for hard-to-abate emissions.
